Lots of things make me happy and give me that "sick sense of satisfaction".

My day at work sucked. For those of you who really know me, you know that I abhor the word suck, but I call it as I see it. Nothing specific happened to me, but the general morale is at an all time low. Believe me.
So when I made it home, feeling like I had just completed four consecutive biathlons (would that be an Octathalon?) I was restless, unnerved and simply brain dead. Bryan had to stop me from pacing the kitchen floor more than once. After dinner, we decided that we needed to go for a long walk. My daughters Bridget and Cindy as well as next door neighbor Kelsey went along too.
As we were on the final stretch home, we crossed Fayette Ave on the bike path and we saw 2 people coming towards us going north on the same path. They were a colored couple and it was evident that they had just gotten off the train at the station. When we reached each other on the path, the lady stopped and asked me if I knew where 1600 Fayette Ave was (which happened to be the Effingham Econo-Lodge about 3 miles down the road).
After talking about the best route to take on their walk, Bryan offered to drive them. We were only 2 –2 ½ blocks from home. I remember the lady saying, “But you don’t know us!” Bryan’s response was “Well, you don’t know me either, but I will be glad to drive you.”
They said yes.
On the short walk home, we introduced ourselves. Their names were Charles and Barbara Booker. They were in Effingham for their 21st wedding anniversary. They wanted to do something special, but different to celebrate and Barbara said they had never ridden on an Amtrak. They ended up in Effingham because of the literature they found at the train station.
After we walked home and got into the car, I told them (thinking I was never going to see them) that they needed to be sure to see the cross before they left town. We told them a little about it and Bryan offered to take the “long way” to the motel to show them.
Their enthusiam at seeing the cross, even from a distance, meant so much to me. It made me see the cross and Effingham in a new light. The four of us looked at the 10 commandments that surround the cross and then we took them to their motel. Bryan and I told them if they needed anything to call.
Sometime Saturday afternoon, Bryan and Bridget picked them up and took them to the mall. When it was time for us to pick them up (they went to see a movie) we needed to go to Dollar General for some hand soap. The worker their asked us if we knew any place in town that sold Effingham shirts because a couple was asking and they wanted to buy some. We found out it was Barbara and Charles!
So we took them to a grocery store nearby that sold Effingham shirts. The shirts were marked down and they were able to find shirts for themselves AND their nieces. Then we went to Wal-Mart (bty...they bought toilet paper and detergent at DG -something Bryan and I would do on OUR vacation!) We stood for an hour or more at the DVDs. "Have you seen this?" "Oh! This one is good!"
We finally got them back to their motel and talked for a while more. It was a sad moment when we took them to the train station Sunday afternoon. God had just brought me some new friends and they had to leave.
I think God made me restless for a reason, don't you?

Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
Ladybugs Came to the ladybugs' picnic
One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they all played games At the ladybugs' picnic
They had twelve sacks so they ran sack races
They fell on their backs and they fell on their faces
The ladybugs 12 At the ladybugs' picnic
They played jump rope but the rope it broke
So they sat around telling knock-knock jokes
The ladybugs 12 At the ladybugs' picnic
One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they chatted away At the ladybugs' picnic
They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs
And fire insurance for ladybugs
The ladybugs 12 At the ladybugs' picnic
12!
